GRIEVANCE OFFICERS

A grievance is a formal allegation that some aspects of the collective agreement have been violated. It is a type of complaint pertinent to the collective agreement. Not all complaints are grievances. A grievance must be filed via LUFA and be approved by the LUFA Chief Grievance Officer.

If you have a complaint that may be a grievance, you should first contact a LUFA grievance officer assigned to your academic unit as listed on this webpage, or the LUFA office, for an assessment of your file as soon as possible. If this initial assessment indicates a viable grievance, the LUFA Chief Grievance Officer will authorize the filing of the grievance and assign a LUFA grievance officer to assist you in the grieving process. If the complaint is not a grievance, LUFA will direct you to another avenue to file your complaint.

A grievance normally starts at Step I (refer to article 30 of the collective agreement for more details on grievances). If this step does not resolve the issue, the grievance will be escalated to Step II. This step of the grievance must be filed in written form within 20 business days of the date of the event(s) giving rise to the grievance or of the date when the grievor ought to have known of the event(s).
